INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indiana board approved a deal brokered by President Donald Trump that will keep hundreds of jobs at the Carrier Corp. factory in Indianapolis in exchange for $7 million in tax breaks and grants over the next 12 years.

The Indiana Economic Development Board committee approved the incentive package on Tuesday.

The IDEC said the $7 million in incentives will secure 1,069 jobs for the next 12 years. If Carrier leaves before 2028, the state can get back that money.

The deal will now go before the state budget committee; it could be voted on as early as mid-April.

DNC National Press Secretary Adrienne Watson responded to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation’s vote to advance the $7 million incentive package for Carrier, even though it still plans to outsource hundreds of Hoosier jobs this year.

“Thanks to Trump’s terrible negotiating skills, Carrier is just a step away from being gifted 7 million dollars’ worth of economic incentives by the state of Indiana, despite the fact Carrier and its parent company are still going to ship the jobs of 1300 Hoosiers to Mexico.   Trump’s Carrier negotiation is a failure and his promise to keep jobs in America is broken.”
