Indiana brewers to bring taproom to Speedway

SPEEDWAY, Ind. - Speedway residents who want to wet their whistles will soon have a new spot to do so, after the city's redevelopment commission entered into an agreement with a brewery.

The Speedway Redevelopment Commission said it has decided to allow Daredevil Brewing Co. to stake their claim on a two-acre site in the 1100 of Main Street.

Daredevil makes Lift Off IPA, a popular brew, plus many other craft beers.

“A craft brewery on Main Street provides a new type of destination location that complements and adds to the growing diversity of local businesses and restaurants in Speedway,” President of the Speedway Redevelopment Commission Vince Noblet said.

Daredevil is located in Shelbyville, Ind., and the Main Street spot will be an expansion of their business as the brewery's first public taproom. The construction will include a 10,000-square-foot brewery.

“(It's) an iconic location that uniquely complements everything Daredevil is about,” Shane Pearson, co-owner of Daredevil Brewing Co., said. “After months of due diligence evaluating locations, we found this incredible opportunity to acquire a former brownfield site that supports our business plans and allows us to be a part of the redevelopment of historic Main Street, Speedway.”

Construction is slated to start later in 2014, with the goal of the brewery being ready for customers within 12 months of groundbreaking.

Daredevil Brewing Co. plans to continue to operate its brewery in Shelbyville.
