INDIANAPOLIS - A correction officer shot and killed himself on the grounds of the Indiana Women's Prison in Indianapolis on Monday, police said.

Officers were called to the prison at 2595 Girls School Road just before 2 p.m. on a report of a shooting.

Major Kenneth Wiltsie, 55, took his own life with a single gunshot wound to the chest, state police said.

"The shooting happened outdoors in a public access area on prison ground property. No inmates or other staff was involved and the prison grounds are secure," Capt. Dave Bursten said in a news release.

Wiltsie was employed with the Indiana Department of Correction for 10 years.
