Indiana girl's family sues parasailing company

PANAMA CITY, Fla. - The family of an Indiana teenage girl who was injured in a parasailing accident in Panama City Beach, Fla., last summer is suing the parasailing company.

Court records show an attorney for the parents of 17-year-old Alexis Fairchild of Huntington, Ind., filed the negligence suit against Aquatic Adventures Management Group in Bay County circuit court last week.

Fairchild and her friend, Sidney Good of Roanoke, Ind., were hurt in a July 1 parasailing accident that began when a rope tethering them to a boat snapped. Strong winds slammed the teens into a condominium building, a power line and a parked car.

The Coast Guard has said severe weather and the boat's proximity to shore were major factors in the accident.

The family is seeking in excess of $15,000.

A telephone message left for Aquatic Adventures wasn't immediately returned.
