INDIANAPOLIS -- The number of Hoosiers carrying guns has skyrocketed this year, according to state police data obtained by Call 6 Investigates.

In the first nine months of the year, 107,410 licenses were issued by the state police. That a 38% hike over the entire year of 2015, where 77,571 licenses were issued.

Call 6 Investigates also spoke to Indianapolis gun store Indy Arms Co. and they say they’ve also seen an increase in sales. They say they’ve also seen a large increase in young adults and women coming in to buy guns for personal protection.

To carry a handgun outside of your home, Hoosiers are required to have a License to Carry Handgun issued by state police. You are required to pass a background check, be fingerprinted and pay a fee before the card is issued. Indiana residents are required to have the card for both open-carry and concealed-carry, according to Indiana law.
