PORTER COUNTY, Ind. - A Porter County man was killed after being thrown from his car Tuesday night in a crash on Interstate 94 in northern Indiana.
Indiana State Police said the crash was reported just before 9:30 p.m. on I-94 east near mile marker 29 when a speeding 2003 Lexus sedan rear-ended a tractor-trailer.
After the car hit the semi, the car flipped and rolled several times, ejecting the driver. The car landed on its roof before tipping over the concrete median barrier, ISP said.
The driver, Sridhar Mothkur, 62, of Chesterton, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not believed to have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the Porter County Coroner said.
The driver of the semi, William Lantis II, 42, of Michigan, was not injured, police said.
Traffic on I-94 was shut down for about 4 hours as crews worked to clear the scene.
