ANDERSON, Ind. - A state education department spokesman says Indiana schools closed during this week's bitter cold will have to make up any days other than Monday and Tuesday.
Indiana Department of Education spokesman Daniel Altman says schools closed Monday or Tuesday can apply for a waiver freeing them from the need to make up those days. He says the extreme cold was the driving factor behind granting the waivers because "it became an issue of student safety."
However, Altman says schools closed Wednesday or Thursday will have to make up those days. Many schools across the state remained closed Wednesday, and some in the Indianapolis area also announced Thursday closures.
