TIPTON COUNTY, Ind. - A Hamilton County man was fatally struck by a car early Friday when he collapsed in the road after crashing his pickup truck.
Just before 4 a.m., Indiana State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Tipton County Road 400 East near C.R. 550 South.
Police said a man driving a 1990 Dodge Dakota pickup truck was headed north on C.R. 400 East when the truck veered off an embankment before flipping in a ditch.
The driver, identified as a 22-year-old man from Atlanta, Ind., was able to walk away from the crash. He walked down C.R. 400 East for about half-a-mile before he collapsed in the road.
A short time later, police said the man was struck by a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Michael Ducheteau, 20, of Alexandria. Ducheteau was not hurt, police said.
The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Due to the nature of the crash and the sub-zero temperatures, the victim's cause of the death remained under investigation by the Tipton County Coroner's Office, ISP said.
