INDIANAPOLIS - Monday, the Department of Public Safety announced the evacuation of all civilian and police employees from the Indianapolis Regional Operations Center and the East District Police Headquarters, thanks to multiple code violations. Now, leaders from the city’s Fraternal Order of Police are planning to call for an independent investigation.
On Tuesday, the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) said it plans to announce its intent to publicly call for an independent investigation of the facility after all its inhabitants were forced out by potential life-safety issues.
The announcement is scheduled to take place at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Regional Operations Center, located at 201 N. Shadeland Avenue in the southwest parking lot.
Director of Public Safety Troy Riggs made the major announcement about the evacuation Monday. Riggs said the two main problems forcing the closure are an inadequate fire wall and a less-than-satisfactory sprinkler system in the basement, but there is a long list of other items that need tending as well.
