INDIANAPOLIS - Fire investigators are trying to determine what sparked a garage fire on Indianapolis' west side early Sunday morning that could be linked to vandalism to nearby vehicles.
The Wayne Township Fire Department responded to a home at 1507 S. Moreland Ave. just before 5:30 a.m.
"Crews arrived on scene to find a detached garage fully involved in fire and extending into two adjacent residences," said Capt. Michael Pruitt. "Firefighters also encountered downed, arcing power lines that blocked access to the garage."
People were evacuated from the adjacent homes, and firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in about 20 minutes, Pruitt said.
"They were able to knock it down and keep it off the houses to keep from doing any more damage to the surrounding houses and structures," said Craig Peoples of Wayne Township Fire Department.
No one was injured, but authorities are also investigating vandalism to vehicles near the fire and the possibility that it may be related.
"The two investigators and investigative agencies will talk. If there is something that goes together, they will put it together. If there is not, it will be worked separately," Peoples said.
Police and fire officials asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
