INDIANAPOLIS -- You've probably started to see leaves falling in Indiana. It's time to get them out of the lawn.

Indianapolis' fall collection period begins Monday.

There are things every household needs to remember about the collection process:
  • Each household is allowed 40 bags of leaves per week
  • Place the leaves in plastic trash bags or paper lawn-waste bags
  • Have the leaf bags out by 7 a.m. on the regular trash day.

The leaf collection period ends Dec. 2.

By the Numbers:

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works says it collected 5,397 tons of leaves last year, which is about 10.7 million pounds.

Assuming each leaf weighs about one gram, that is 4.9 billion (with a B) leaves picked up last year.

That's 5,700 leaves per person in Indianapolis.

Happy raking, Circle City.
