GREENWOOD, Ind. - A 28-year-old Indiana man has been charged after investigators said they determined he had molested a 5-year-old girl and produced child pornography, among other crimes.
The Greenwood Police Department (GPD) said Tuesday, Indianapolis resident Justin Mahan was charged after a nearly month-long investigation.
Police said they first began investigating Mahan on Nov. 18 when a harassment report was filed against him by a Greenwood woman.
The woman said Mahan had installed some type of spy program on her phone that allowed him to track her location and read her text messages. She told police on numerous occasions, Mahan would know where she was and would know about the content of her text messages on her smart phone.
Police said they confirmed tracking software had been installed on the woman's phone.
Then, on Nov. 20, police said they found and arrested Mahan while he was sitting outside the woman's apartment in Greenwood. He was taken into custody under an outstanding arrest warrant from Johnson County, police said.
Once investigators had gotten a search warrant for Mahan's phone, which they had confiscated, they said they found more than what they were originally looking for.
Detectives said they found several images that were considered to be child pornography. Investigators determined the images showed Mahan engaged in various sexual acts with a 5-year-old girl.
Police said Mahan tried to elude being arrested by fleeing to Jasper, Ind., but with the help of the U.S. Marshal's Service, Mahan was arrested without incident.
Mahan faces several charges: one Class-A felony count of child molesting; five Class-C felony counts of child molesting; 14 Class-C felony counts of child exploitation; one Class-D felony count of computer tampering; and one Class-D felony county of stalking.
