INDIANAPOLIS - A former police chief with experience in Louisville and Corpus Christi will be announced as Indianapolis' new public safety director Tuesday.

Mayor Greg Ballard will make the announcement at a 10 a.m. news conference.

Officials in Corpus Christi confirmed that Troy Riggs, the city's former police chief and current assistant city manager over safety, health and neighborhoods was leaving to take a position in Indianapolis.

“Troy is more than an asset; he is a tremendous public servant,” City Manager Ron Olson said in a statement. “Troy has such an upbeat personality, we are all going to miss him, but I wish him the very best in his future endeavors."

Riggs, former assistant police chief in Louisville, has worked in Corpus Christi for nearly three years.

The incoming public safety director will oversee a $525 million budget.
