INDIANAPOLIS - A mother and her boyfriend are headed to prison for the abuse that left her young son with irreversible brain damage.

Christopher Lee, now 4 years old, is legally blind, paraplegic and must have medical attention 24 hours a day.

Ian Huff, 24, and the boy's mother, Ashley Lee, were both charged in connection with causing the boy's injuries after Huff violently shook the boy and threw him into a wall.

At Friday's sentencing hearing, Huff apologized for his actions.

"I am not a monster," he told the court. "I hope my victim will find it in his heart to forgive me."

Huff was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Ashley Lee's mother, who is in the process of adopting her grandson, said the sentence wasn't long enough.

"He is a monster.  Would you trust your child with him? Do you think in six to 10 years, or whenever he gets out, would you trust him?" she asked. "Look what he has done to my grandson. My grandson is damaged for life. I wouldn't trust him."

Ashley Lee apologized for not providing better supervision for her child. She was sentenced to six years in prison.
