INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis City-County Council approved several ordinances Monday in relation to parking and laws against making turns near the Red Line – the city’s upcoming bus rapid transit project.
During Red Line construction, specific lanes will be created for the bus rapid transit system and other IndyGo vehicles. The general public will be prohibited from using these lanes and drivers will face a penalty if they utilize the lanes.
A $50 fine will be given to any person who has their first violation within a 12-month period. A second violation within a 12-month period will have a $100 fine attached.
The council approved several ordinances when it comes parking for the public once the Red Line is constructed.
Parking will be prohibited on:
• Indiana Avenue, on the northeast side, from Capitol Avenue to Vermont Street
• North Street, on both sides, from Meridian Street to a point 125 feet east of Meridian Street
• North Street, on both sides, from Pennsylvania Street to a point 329 feet east of Meridian Street
• Senate Avenue, on the east side, from Ohio Street to Indiana Avenue
Other than marked vehicles with the city fire, sheriff, police and U.S. Marshal, no others will be allowed to park on Virginia Avenue, on the north side, from Maryland Street to Alabama Street from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Vehicles also aren’t allowed to park on either side of Meridian Street from 38th Street to 39th Street on any day except Sundays and holidays from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Parking, standing and stopping vehicles are also prohibited at all times on the following streets:
• College Avenue, on the east side, from 225 feet south of the south curb line of 38th Street
• East Street, on the west side, from Wabash Street to Market Street
• East Street, on the west side, from Washington Street to Georgia Street
• East Street, on the west side, from Lord Street to South Street
• Eleventh Street, on the north side, from a point 405 feet east of Capitol Avenue to Illinois Avenue
• Eleventh Street, on the south side, from a point 380 feet east of Capitol Avenue to Illinois Avenue
• Eighteenth Street, on both sides, from Capitol Avenue to Meridian Street
• Capitol Avenue, on the east side, from Vermont Street to Michigan Street
• Capitol Avenue, on the west side, from Vermont Street to a point 192 feet north of Vermont Street
• Capitol Avenue, on the east side, from Michigan Street to North Street
• Capitol Avenue, on the west side, from North Street to a point 75 feet south of North Street
• Capitol Avenue, on the east side, from North Street to Walnut Street
• Capitol Avenue, on the east side, from Walnut Street to St. Clair Street
• Capitol Avenue, on the east side, from St. Clair Street to Ninth Street
