SOUTHPORT, Ind. – A mother is concerned after she learned explicit photos of middle school students were posted to an Instagram account over the weekend.
Lindsay Bernard said last Friday her daughter, who attends Southport Middle School, showed her the account allegedly showing pornographic photos of the students.
“The sad part was that my child said I know who was in that picture,” said Bernard. “My thoughts were immediately these kids are being bombarded with this in their news feed. This could pop up. Because when I saw it, it was very explicit pictures of children.”
She said the account called Exposing SMS Page was hacked from a student’s existing page. The hacker changed the name of the account and began posting the photos.
“Shock and disbelief, I mean anger. I was furious that she saw this,” said Bernard, who filed a police report.
The account was deleted and Perry Township Schools said they are working to find the person responsible.
“We take these matters very seriously, and will remind students about using technology responsibly even when they are outside of the school setting,” district officials said in a statement.
