INDIANAPOLIS – A store clerk was shot on the city’s east side Monday night.
Indianapolis Police said the shooting happened in the 1100 block of Arlington Avenue at Family Dollar around 9 p.m. during a robbery.
The 18-year-old clerk was shot in the chest while attempting to take the gun away from the suspect.
IMPD Officer M. Deskins retrieved a “sucking chest wound” first aid kit from his patrol car that he had purchased with his own funds and began providing treatment before medics transported the clerk to Eskenazi Hospital.
Officers R. Duell and J. Anderson also played essential roles in providing immediate first aid to the victim.
The clerk assigned to work Tuesday night, who was brought from another location, said many other employees quit after Monday's shooting. The store plans to close earlt Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Police said the suspect is still on the loose and was described as a black heavy set male standing 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing a gray and green sweatshirt. Officers consider him armed and dangerous.
