INDIANAPOLIS -- It's been a busy month for firefighters with the Indianapolis Fire Department. Crews have battled more than 30 fires in November alone - 15 of those fires were in vacant homes - and seven firefighters have been injured.

Firefighters were called to a home at 37th and Broadway Sunday afternoon where they believe squatters set a home on fire. It was the 34th structure fire that firefighters have had to battle this month. No injuries were reported.

The Indianapolis Fire Department says 15 of the building fires they have worked were in vacant buildings and that is where most of the firefighter injuries have occurred.

Last December, IFD responded to 57 working residence fires, but a majority of them were occupied. Nearly half of this month's fires have been in vacant homes. Fire officials are asking everybody to report any trespassing in the area.

Three firefighters were injured battling a fire at a vacant home on Warman Avenue last week, all three firefighters were checked out at the hospital and released.

A man was critically injured and three dogs were killed in a fire on Highland Avenue on November 3.

And earlier this week, a man was found dead inside a home that caught fire. Detectives believe that fire on Barr Drive was intentionally set.
