BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A 19-year-old Indiana University student said he licked moisture off of the walls to stay hydrated while he was trapped inside a gated southern Indiana cave for almost three days.
Indiana Freshman Lukas Cavar was on a spelunking trip to Sullivan Cave on Sunday with 12 other members of Indiana University's Caving Club when he became separated from the group, according to the Indiana Daily Student.
Sullivan Cave is located about 10 miles south of Bloomington.
Cavar couldn't find his group and when he got to the entrance he found the gate was already padlocked shut.
"I was very confused and pretty scared," Cavar told the Indiana Daily Student.
Because he was in a cave, Cavar couldn't get a cell phone signal. He told the newspaper that he tried screaming for help but no one ever came. Cavar said he licked moisture from the walls to quench his thirst during the nearly 60 hours he spent locked in without food or water.
Two club members came looking for him on Tuesday after he was reported missing.
Cavar said he has no plans to go spelunking in the near future.
RTV6 has reached out to Cavar for an interview but has not yet heard back from him.
