INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Department of Public Works and Mayor Joe Hogsett kicked off the winter season Tuesday by announcing their plans to tackle the snow and ice.

They discussed how the DPW will work to keep the streets clear and passable when the snow falls.

The salt barns are full and plows are fueled up and ready to hit the road.

One worker with the Indy Snow Force says he's eager to get started, but has a reminder for other drivers as we head into the season of snow and ice.

"We are driving a heavy piece of equipment that has a 20,000 pound plow on the front and we don't have the stopping capabilities we would on dry pavement, so be aware of that, be cautious of that, and keep an eye open for the vehicles that are trying to get the snow up," said Vincent Gartin, DPW Maintenance Operations Tech.
