INDIANAPOLIS -- With comments from President Trump's administration putting the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in jeopardy, Indianapolis Public Schools' board unanimously passed a resolution stating it remains committed to supporting all IPS students, regardless of immigration status.
Thursday, the IPS board passed Resolution No. 7756, titled "Reaffirming Support for Undocumented Students and Families."
"Continuing confusion surrounding the status of these students adversely impacts many valued members of the IPS community," said Commission President Mary Ann Sullivan. "We believe in the dignity and worth of all people, and remain committed to serving and supporting every student and family, regardless of immigration status."

In the resolution, the board encouraged Congress -- especially those who represent families in Indianapolis -- and Trump to work toward a permanent solution "that protects the security and promotes the future" of undocumented children brought to the U.S.
The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program had protected individuals from deportation who were brought to the United States illegally as children. The Trump administration has announced it would give Congress six months to pass legislation preserving those provisions before the program was terminated.
