IU Health Cancer Resource Center celebrates one year of service to patients, families

INDIANAPOLIS -- The IU Health Cancer Resource Center has marked one year of helping Central Indiana families who face a cancer diagnosis.   

The Resource Center is inside the Simon Cancer Center in downtown Indianapolis. They have free information and service for cancer patients and their families, regardless of what hospital they go to.

Trained volunteers and staff that can connect patients and families with information about diagnosis and treatment as well as community programs and support services to help with day to day concerns and overall well-being.  

Programs and services include educational programming, transportation services, support and counseling, financial support, clinical trial matching, and community resources. The IU Cancer Resource Center also partners with the American Cancer Society, Cancer Support Community, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Little Red Door, and Susan G. Komen.

The Wig Bank located inside of the CRC has given out 75 free wigs to Central Indiana cancer patients.  Inside the wig bank, patients can get fitted for a new wig just for them with a cosmetologist.  

IU Health’s CompleteLife Therapy Programs are also available at the CRC with art therapy, music therapy, yoga therapy and massage therapy. Art, music, yoga and massage therapy can help address patient concerns such as pain management, anxiety, stress and coping with their diagnosis and treatment plan. However, some of these therapies are limited to IU Health patients.  

The IU Health Cancer Resource Center is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
