LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- The Lawrence Township Trustee’s Office and Community Action of Greater Indianapolis, Inc. are partnering up to help people living in Lawrence Township.

Trustee Steve Talley and acting CAGI executive director Terence White signed a memorandum of understanding regarding rental assistance for Lawrence Township residences.

“The Office of Lawrence Township Trustee’s mission is to model excellence in local government through accountability to the community, and that the staff strives to address the emergency assistance needs of our community in a compassionate and fiscally responsible matter,” said Talley, “The Trustees Office is dedicated to continually improving and increasing efficiency, while providing extraordinary service to the citizens of Lawrence Township.”

The new partnership will build capacity and leverage resources that will be a saving to Lawrence Township taxpayers, according to the Trustee’s Office.

The Lawrence Township Trustee’s office administers emergency assistance programs and oversees the maintenance of fourteen public cemeteries. In the event of an emergency, residents of Lawrence Township can turn to the Trustee’s office for help. The office may provide direct assistance in addition to information about community programs and services that are able to meet a variety of needs.

To be eligible for assistance, residents need to show that unforeseen circumstances have led to financial difficulty and that short-term aid will help them get back on track.

Community Action of Greater Indianapolis, Inc. (CAGI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the reduction and ultimate elimination of poverty among the clients in its service area and provides programs and services to low-income residents of the city of Indianapolis.
