INDIANAPOLIS -- The 10th annual Monumental Marathon is expected to attract thousands of runners and spectators to downtown Indianapolis this weekend.

If you’re planning to go downtown during the marathon, plan on utilizing the interstate because several main roads surrounding the city will be blocked or restricted starting as early as 5:30 a.m. until around 4:30 p.m.

The ability to go east and west through downtown will be limited most of Saturday. Expect backups along 38th Street and Fall Creek Parkway.

The marathon has sold out for the sixth consecutive year, with a record field size of 6,000 participants that will be taking part in one of the four events.

  • Full 26.2 mile Marathon
  • Half 13.1 mile Marathon
  • 5k Run
  • Kids Fun Run

And with so many people visiting the city, Indianapolis police want runners to know they will be safe.

More than 150 uniformed officers, radio operators, and medical personnel will be looking out for any suspicious activity during the event.
