INDIANAPOLIS -- More than 300 Indianapolis Public School teachers will have to reapply for their jobs at one of the four public high schools that will remain open for the 2018-19 school year.

The news comes just a day after the IPS Board of School Commissioners voted to close three city high schools.

Broad Ripple, Arlington and Northwest high schools will all close after the 2017-18 school year.

Crispus Attucks, Shortridge, Arsenal Technical and George Washington high schools will remain open, and students from the three closing schools will be transferred between the four.

IPS says the school closings will generate more than $7 million for the district.

Because the schools will be combining down to four, more than 300 teachers who work for all seven schools will have to reapply for their positions.

About 150 teachers who work in the following programs will be exempt from having to reapply.

  • International Baccalaureate Program
  • Art Teachers at Broad Ripple
  • Special Education with Arches and Life programs
  • Career Technical Program
