LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- The MSD of Lawrence Township is slated to receive more than $1.5 million thanks to a grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc.

The grants have been approved for 52 Indiana public schools and five Indiana charter schools to help them implement strategies to strengthen school counseling programs for students.

The grants are part of the Lilly Endowment’s Comprehensive Counseling Initiative for Indiana K-12 students.

The five-year initiative is designed to encourage public schools to aspire to and develop best practice comprehensive counseling models that effectively address the academic, college, career, and social and emotional counseling needs of students.

Superintendent Dr. Shawn A. Smith shared, “This grant dovetails beautifully with our strategic plan, emphasizing an enhanced system of care. Providing students with access to a comprehensive network of advisors and mentors, in collaboration with community resources, helps to ensure the social and emotional wellness of all students.”

The Director of Grants and Programs, Patricia Gerber, said, “Lilly Endowment recognized the work of MSD of Lawrence Township by providing funding to support our innovative approach to developing a system of care supporting the whole child.”

Lilly Endowment, Inc. is an Indianapolis-based, private philanthropic foundation created in 1937 by three members of the Lilly family -- J.K. Lilly Sr. and sons J.K. Jr. and Eli -- through gifts of stock in their pharmaceutical business, Eli Lilly and Company.
