WARREN COUNTY, Ind. -- A pilot was killed when his plane crashed in Warren County late Saturday night.

Warren County dispatch got word around 10:30 p.m. of a possible plane down from the Vermillion County Sheriff's Department in Illinois.

The search was called off after about six hours due to the rough terrain and resumed around 8 a.m. Sunday.

A helicopter arrived on scene and located the wreckage about 20 minutes later in the area of CR 575 south and SR 263.

Search and rescue crews were guided to the area and found the pilot's body.  He was the only one on plane.

The pilot has been identified as George P. Irick, Jr., 68, of Congerville, Illinois.

The Civil Air Patrol says the single-engine Cessna took off from Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday morning headed for Peoria, Illinois.

The plane was expected to refuel in Danville, Illinois, but dropped off radar late Saturday.
