INDIANAPOLIS – Drivers and pedestrians are usually the first to notice bumps in the road, but those that make the decision on which roads get repaired first have a big job.

Officials with the Department of Public Works said several factors are considered when choosing which road repairs are a priority.

“Resurfacing takes a lot of patience - it’s not a quick fix,” said Warren Stokes with DPW. “Our team does technical assessments - they take a look at the roads, and they say ok well how is this road being used, who is using the road, and how long has it been since we have done anything to take care of it.”

Street repairs normally cost about $156,000 per lane mile, DPW said.
