INDIANAPOLIS -- Volunteers with the Ben Davis Lions Club are busy handing out dictionaries to students in the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township.

The group plans to deliver 1,230 dictionaries to at least 10 different schools this year.

The third grade students who receive the dictionaries get get to take the books home, according to Don Mullens, spokesperson for the Ben Davis Lions Club.

"I think it’s important because for some kids this is their first book that’s truly theirs," said Mullens.

The dictionaries contain information on presidents, maps, and other resources.

"It promotes literacy," said Mullens.

The Lions Club raises the money for the dictionaries through various fundraisers including pancake breakfasts and golf tournaments.
