SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- It's a great opportunity to do some bird watching from the comfort of your own home.
The University of Notre Dame has installed a new camera for online viewing of a bald eagle nest in South Bend.
In 2015, two bald eagles took over an existing nest at the Notre Dame Linked Experimental Ecosystem Facility, at St. Patrick's County Park in South Bend. They were the first successful bald eagle nests ever recorded in St. Joseph County and the pair has come back to build each year since.
The new "eagle cam" is mounted above the bald eagle nest so viewers can watch the eagles through their entire nesting cycle.

The school has also compiled a video "highlight reel" from the nest.
Experts say bald eagles in that region typically lay two eggs in late February or early March.
They take exactly 35 days to hatch.
Eagles are protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
