INDIANAPOLIS — Hope Baptist Church on the west side of Indianapolis is planning a trip to Florida to drop off supplies for those impacted by Hurricane Irma.

Pastor Jerry Hillenburg and a group of men will leave on Monday to head to Ft. Myers.

The church is collecting supplies until then. They are asking for water, toiletries, diapers, baby wipes, baby food, formula and non-perishable food.

The supplies will be delivered to Winker Road Baptist Church in Ft. Myers.

"There is a desperate need for water, that is their number one need,” said Melissa Scott of Hope Baptist.

The church will be collecting supplies over the weekend. The church office is open until 6 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, September 15, donations will be collected from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. On Sunday from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and then again from 4 p.m. until after the evening service.

“We would really love for anyone who wants to be a part to help. We are so blessed to take the trip and help out the people in Florida,” said Scott.

After Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, Hope Baptist Church had a successful donation drive. They were able to collect 8,000 pounds of supplies. In addition, the community also donated $2,000.

Pastor Hillenburg drove down to Texas and visited churches. Along with others from the church, they were able to help people impacted by the storm with supplies. In addition, they talked with community members and find out what supplies they still needed.

“The spirit was really impressive, everyone was coming together and helping out,” Scott said.

In addition to the supplies Hope Baptist Church is collecting for those impacted by Hurricane Irma, they are also accepting monetary donations. The church is also accepting gas cards to help pay for fuel for the trip to Florida.

On Friday, the church is getting bibles donated that they plan to take to Florida and hand out. “What if their bible got destroyed, what a comfort to get a brand new bible. We are really excited to pass those out,” said Scott.

Hope Baptist Church is located at 1055 N Girls School Rd in Indianapolis.
