FISHERS, Ind. -- Prepare to see more orange cones on your drive. INDOT kicked off the 2016 construction season Wednesday, and they have nearly 800 projects planned.

Construction is underway on the new exit from I-69 to 106th Street. The new avenue is aimed at easing congestion on nearby roads, and clearing the way for new business to locate there. It is one of more than 770 projects planned for the year.

INDOT says crews will resurface or replace 740 miles of pavement, and close to 500 bridges.

Another new project is slated for Hendricks County, where crews will resurface the bridge on State Road 267 over I-70.

A major change is also planned for the I-70 interchange at State Road 39. Most of the projects are an effort to preserve the existing pavement and infrastructure.

"That's an important, a key economic driver that's helped Hoosier cities and towns of all sizes thrive. But it's also the kind of change overnight that if you don't think strategically, if you don't think into the future, it can go away quickly," Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb said.

As you start to see more of the orange cones into the spring in summer, INDOT is asking that you keep an eye out for the construction workers, and be careful.
