INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis group is hosting an event called "White Ally Training" to help teach people how immigrants and other groups are marginalized in America.
It's the idea of a newly formed activist organization known as Indy Showing Up for Racial Justice or Indy SURJ.
"We don't just want to feed off short-lived white enthusiasm," said SURJ Co-Founder Ali Tabb. "We want to create a cultural shift."
The group says their half-day workshop is designed for "white folks" who are engaged or aspiring to be engaged in anti-racist work.
“We’re acknowledging that this is going to be uncomfortable for a lot of white people because it’s a lot of reflection which usually leads to defensiveness," said Tabb.
The first workshop will be held Saturday, February 25. Registration for that event has already closed, but because of the tremendous response, the group has scheduled a second workshop on Saturday, March 19.
