INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis native and comedian Mike Epps is putting his stamp on a classic 80's comedy next month with the premiere of "Uncle Buck" on ABC.

Yes, "Uncle Buck," the Jon Hughes classic starring John Candy, is being remade into a TV show – and Epps is picking up Candy's mantle.

He says the TV adaptation doesn't stray too far from the 1989 film. Epps will play a fun-loving, but irresponsible, bachelor who babysits his brother's three kids.

With the recent success of other African-American-centered shows on ABC – from the juggernaut "Scandal" to family comedy "Blackish" – Epps is hopeful that he too will be a household hit.

The Indy native was back in his hometown this week talking about the show – and to finally receive his high school diploma from Arsenal Tech High School.

"Uncle Buck" premieres on RTV6 on Tuesday, June 14, at 9:00 p.m.
