#INDYTODAY | Events for Thursday, March 27 in the Circle City

INDIANAPOLIS - When you add drinks to random acts of kindness and spelling bees, you get quite the combination. Plus, Sweet 16 anyone? Here's the scoop on some things going on this Thursday (or Friday, Jr., as we like to call it) in Indianapolis with #INDYTODAY.

Every day, we'll keep you in the loop on events and what could affect you in downtown Indy. Today, there are a few items on the to-do list that might tickle your fancy. Make sure to tune in to Good Morning Indiana every day from 4:30 to 7 on RTV6 for updates on area happenings.

Free drinks for "Not So Random Acts of Kindness"

Head out to Mass Ave Pub Thursday night to treat yourself and your favorite business. The event for Yelp's "Not So Random Acts of Kindness Week" is all about telling your favorite business owners why they and their companies are special. Starting at 7 p.m, Mass Ave Pub will be filled with guests crafting letters to their favorite business owners, while drinking a special Yelp cocktail. The free event runs until 9 p.m.

The "Spilling Bee"

Spelling bees aren't just for schoolchildren. Tonight's "Spilling Bee" at the White Rabbit Cabaret will prove it. Come out at 8 p.m. and see how well you can spell while enjoying some drinks. Each time you spell a word correctly, you'll earn a free beer and move on to the next round. The winner gets $50 and it's $8 to participate and $3 to watch.

Sweet 16 practices open to public

If you've got time on your lunch break, head on over to the stadium to watch college players get ready for their big March Madness games Thursday. No streets will be closed for these events, but watch for heavy traffic near Lucas Oil Stadium around these times of open practices on Thursday:

• Noon - 12:50 p.m. - Tennessee Volunteers
• 1 - 1:50 p.m. - Kentucky Wildcats
• 2:10 - 3 p.m. - Michigan Wolverines
• 3:10 - 4 p.m. - Louisville Cardinals

All members of the public are invited to watch the teams practice, for free. More information here.

"Scouting for Food" Drive

Ninety-eight Kroger stores, including many in our area, are participating in the 28th-annual "Scouting for Food" Drive. Kroger, along with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and other will come together this week at Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana to launch the drive. The food drive runs until Saturday at Gleaners downtown.
