INDIANAPOLIS - An Indianapolis police officer who was injured in the line of duty this summer is finally going home, just in time for Christmas.

Officer Santos Cortez was struck by a drunken driver in June, police said, and has been recovering at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood.

Cortez, a father of four, will be released from the rehabilitation facility Wednesday.

In November, Cortez and his family were given a German Shepherd as a pet by the Officer David Moore Foundation and German Shepherd Rescue Indy.

It's unclear if Cortez will be able to return to the force.
