INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Power and Light said at least 2,280 customers were without power early Thursday after a transformer fire on the city's east side.

The transformer fire was reported just after 6 a.m. near 21st Street and Post Road, utility officials said.

Warren Township Schools were on a two-hour delay Thursday morning due to the outage, officials said.

Indianapolis Metro Police directed traffic in the area and drivers were advised to expect delays.

According to the IPL website, power was restored about 7 a.m.

The cause of the transformer fire remains under investigation.
