INDIANAPOLIS – The IPS school board held their first public meeting Thursday since the district announced recommendations to close Broad Ripple High School and turn two other high schools into middle schools.
The district recommended Broad Ripple High School be closed and sold. Northwest and Arlington are planned to transform into middle schools in 2018.
Parents and school alum attended the meetings to voice their concerns.
“Shocked, disappointed at the same time. Lot of history at Arlington high school when the school opened in 1961,” said Tim Bass, Arlington alum.
Several Broad Ripple alum, including former Pacer George Hill, said they would like to save the school from closing.

The changes are expected to save the district $7 million. The final vote will take place in September.
