INDIANAPOLIS - A man died early Friday after crashing his motorcycle on Interstate 465 near 62nd Street, Indiana State Police said.
Just after 12:30 a.m., Indianapolis Metro Police said they spotted a Dodge Charger and a motorcycle racing near 71st Street and Georgetown Road. The officer tried to catch up to the pair, but lost sight once they upped their speed.
The officer headed toward I-465 south where he saw the Charger again, and made a traffic stop just south of 56th Street.
During the traffic stop, ISP notified IMPD about a fatal crash on I-465 near 62nd Street. After talking to witnesses and officers, ISP determined the crash was linked to the traffic stop involving the Dodge Charger.
The unidentified motorcycle driver was rushed to Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Detectives said they believe alcohol was a factor in the cause of the crash. The Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
