MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. - Two northern Indiana men were arrested this weekend in Miami County after troopers said they found multiple drugs in their car.
Indiana State Police (ISP) said at roughly 4:30 p.m. Saturday, a trooper pulled over a car on U.S. Highway 31 near Airport Road because the driver was following the next car too closely.
During the traffic stop, the trooper said he suspected more was going on inside the car, so he requested a narcotics-detecting police dog to help. The K-9, Zeke, conducted a “free air” sniff around the car and gave a positive alert to the odor of illegal narcotics inside, the trooper said.
During a search of the car, ISP said troopers found marijuana, heroin and a legend drug (pills). They arrested Sepoor A. Washington, 29, of Elkhart, and Benjamin J. Hicks, 33, of South Bend. Both men were jailed in Miami County and ISP said Hicks faces felony charges for possession of heroin and possession of a legend drug, while both men face a misdemeanor charge for possession of marijuana.
