BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University police say an IU student caused up to $25,000 in damage to his car and school property during a wild early morning drive across campus.
Lt. W. Craig Munroe tells The Herald-Times an officer watched early Friday as the student's car exited through the north arch of the campus' iconic Sample Gates.
Police don't believe the gates suffered any major damage. But most of the student's car was damaged from striking bushes, trees, poles and bike racks during his drive along campus sidewalks.
Police estimated damage to the car and school property at between $10,000 and $25,000.
Twenty-one-year-old Drew Alan Mendez faces preliminary charges of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. He was released from the Monroe County Jail after posting bail.
