Walkup allegedly sent raunchy emails to others

INDIANAPOLIS - An Ivy Tech Community College trustee and former board chairman resigned from his position Monday evening.
Bruce Walkup was at the center of a controversy after he allegedly sent emails with sexist jokes and nude pictures of women to former state officials.
Those emails were sent to the chief of staff, former Gov. Mitch Daniels, the president of Ivy Tech and the former director of Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources.
College officials asked him to stop earlier this year, but the emails continued for at least six months.
Walkup issued the following statement Monday evening:
"I want to once again apologize for any misconceptions or persons I may have offended as a result of the emails I had sent out. I believe it is time to move forward and not allow these actions to overshadow the tremendous work of the faculty, staff and students at Ivy Tech Community College. I have informed the Governor’s office that I am resigning from my position on the board of trustees effective immediately. I enjoyed serving for over 13 years and watching the college transform into what it is today. I am stepping aside so that the focus can be on our students and the important role that Ivy Tech plays in educating Hoosiers throughout our state.”
