GREENWOOD, Ind. -- When’s the last time you took an inventory of the pile of shoes in your closet? Last year? Ten years ago? Greenwood Christian School and Child Care Ministries in Greenwood is giving you a good reason to consider which shoes to keep and which to give away.

This fall, the school’s leaders hope your old shoes will help update its teaching facilities.

Greenwood Christian School and Child Care Ministries launched a shoe drive fundraiser in August. It runs through October 19. School leaders hope to collect 6,000 pairs of new or old shoes. Right now, the school has about 275 pairs. The weight of all those shoes will determine how much cash the school receives.

In the end,Greenwood Christian School and Child Care Ministrieswill use the money to replace modular classrooms needed for educational instruction.

So, whose shoes are needed? And, do they have to be new? Quick answers: Anyone’s shoes and no, used shoes are just fine. Hop on over to the GCS office to donate lightly worn shoes.

Once the shoes are weighed and the money is awarded to GCS, the donated shoes will be distributed to families in need around the world, through Funds2Orgs.

"We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money for Greenwood Christian School and Child Care Ministries, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It's a win-win for everyone,” said School Administrator Ellen Sheets.

The GCS office, at 2045 Averitt Rd., is open Monday through Friday, normal business hours. Donations are welcome at any time before October 19.
