GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A church typically has pews and an organ. However, in Greenwood, Stones Crossing Church can add auto shop to that list.

Stones Auto Service opened its doors last September. Since then, volunteers have repaired 315 cars, had seven cars donated and have put on three oil change events.

Stones Auto Service is a non-profit ministry that was created to help single moms, widows and the elderly living in Johnson County. If you fit into one of those three categories, you qualify for these services. Here's the catch: this ministry only charges for the cost of the parts. The labor is free. So, prices are way lower than at a typical auto shop.

Brake work typically costs between $20 - $100. General maintenance like oil changes and belt replacements can cost between $15 - $50.

The volunteers who work at Stones Auto Service aren't mechanics but they're knowledgeable enough to get the job done.

Stones Auto Service operates by appointment only on Tuesdays starting at 5 p.m.
