K-9, stop sticks help end police chase on I-69

FISHERS, Ind. -- A man and a woman are in custody after a police chase ended on Interstate 69 early Friday morning. 

The chase began around 1 a.m., when a Fishers police officer tried to pull a Hyundai over near 96th Street and North by Northeast Boulevard. During the stop, the officer noticed the smell of marijuana. The driver refused to provide any ID, then drove away from the police.

The chase ended in the northbound lanes near Mile Marker 214, around an hour later. 

Police used stop sticks to stop the vehicle, then a K-9 to help apprehend the driver, Danurell Blair, 38. 

Blair was taken to the hospital for treatment from his dog bite wounds.

He faces preliminary charges of: 

  • Unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon
  • Resisting law enforcement in a vehicle
  • Resisting law enforcement
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Carrying a handgun without a license

The woman was arrested without incident. She faces a preliminary charge of possession of marijuana.
