POSEY COUNTY, Ind. - Police say they aren't sure why a pickup truck went off the road on I-64 Monday afternoon, leaving a Kansas woman and her dog dead.
Just after noon Monday, Indiana State Police and the Posey County Sheriff's Department responded to a single vehicle crash on I-64 at the 4-mile marker. When they arrived at the scene, police found Edwina Cabe, 69, of Overland Park, Kan., dead at the scene. Her pet dog which was riding in the vehicle was also killed.
Police said their preliminary investigation show that Cabe's 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck was trailing westbound when for unknown reasons her vehicle left the roadway on the south side, striking the guardrail. The truck then crossed both westbound lanes, striking the north side guardrail, before crossing back again across both lanes and striking the concrete barrier, coming to a final rest in the passing lane.
Police said Cabe was wearing her seatbelt.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
