LAWRENCE, Ind. - A Lawrence mother has been arrested after her 2-year-old son was found alone in a cold, unlocked car in a Walmart parking lot, police said.
Officers were called to the Walmart at 10735 Pendleton Pike just after 2 p.m. Wednesday on a report of child alone in a vehicle.
They found a 2-year-old boy sleeping in the back seat of an unlocked car that was turned off, police said.
The temperature outside was 33 degrees at the time, police said.
Officers put the child in a warm squad car and waited until the boy's mother, Alicia Rodriguez, 24, returned to the car.
According to the police report, she told officers she had come to Walmart to get medicine for her other child, who was at home with her sister.
Rodriquez was arrested on a preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent.
The 2-year-old was placed in the custody of Child Protective Services before being turned over to his father.
