INDIANAPOLIS – A new grassroots program is urging state lawmakers to expand preschool to every child, including those of low-income status.

All IN 4 Pre-K is a collaboration of families, community advocates and business leaders who believe “All young children in Indiana deserve a chance to start school ready to reach their full potential.”

In Marion County, more than three times as many people applied for a publicly funded preschool scholarship.

The demand was more than the city could accommodate.

Democrats John Gregg and Glenda Ritz are proposing a plan for statewide, publicly-funded pre-K for all 4-year-olds.

Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb said he’s excited about the success of the state’s pre-K pilot and is looking for ways to expand that program in a way that helps those in need first.

The official announcement of the campaign took place on Friday afternoon.
