CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. -- The wait continued in Indiana Monday to find out who bought the winning Mega Millions ticket worth an estimated $536 million.

The Hoosier Lottery said the winning ticket was purchased at a Speedway gas station in Cambridge City.

The station is just a few feet away from I-70, so the ticket purchaser could be from anywhere. But locals hope it's someone from Cambridge City.

"Absolutely I hope it's someone local," said Cambridge City Police Chief Richard Roberts. "Personally, I hope it's a group of people who bought it together. That's what I hope."

The drama began to build as soon as officials knew for sure there was a winner. Lottery staff is waiting for the winner to make an appearance.

"We have definitely been on the edge since the moment we received the news Saturday morning," said Hoosier Lottery Director Sarah Taylor. "We will continue to be on that watch even if it takes 100 days."

Cambridge City Clerk-Treasurer Sherry Ervin share's the chief's hopes.

"I really, really hope it is someone from Cambridge City," she said. "I would just be so wonderful for that person. It's such a small community. I love our little town. Someone who lives here would be awesome."

The winner can take payment as a 30-year annuity or in a one-time lump sum estimated at $378 million, before taxes. After taxes, the lump sum is estimated to be worth $278 million.
