Madison Co. motorcyclist killed in crash

ARLINGTON, Va. --  A Madison Co., Ind. man was killed after taking part in a Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally in Virginia Sunday.

Virginia State Police say 66-year-old Craig A. Vanbrunt of Pendleton, Ind. died following a crash on Interstate 66 in Arlington.

Authorities say Vanbrunt was with a group of motorcyclists when they came upon stopped traffic and he wasn't able to brake in time. 

Vanbrunt was taken to George Washington University Hospital where he died.

Police say he was hearing a helmet.

Governor Mike Pence joined Rolling Thunder Indiana Chapter 1 at the Indiana War Memorial last Thursday to lead the first leg of the group's motorcycle ride from Indianapolis to Washington, D.C.

Upon hearing of Vanbrunt's death, he released this statement:

Karen and I were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Craig Vanbrunt, who served our nation in uniform and lost his life honoring our prisoners of war and service members missing in action during this year's Rolling Thunder activities in our nation's Capital. As Hoosiers pause this Memorial Day to remember our fallen heroes, we send our deepest condolences to the family of retired Army veteran Craig Vanbrunt, his friends and Rolling Thunder Indiana Chapter 1 on the passing of this devoted Hoosier soldier.
